Sun City Band

If you are going into the 6th, 7th or 8th grade next year and have been in your school’s band for at least one year, the Sun City Band is for you! Sun City is an all-Pueblo, award-winning, middle school marching band sponsored by the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with Pueblo School District 60 and Pueblo County School District 70.

Cost and Important Dates

Registration: Monday, March 24 - Tuesday, July 1, 2025
Registration fee: $25
Parent and uniform meeting: Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at George L. Williams Hall in City Park 800 Goodnight Ave. 81005. Uniform orders will be taken, and we will discuss the rules and schedule of the band. There will be a nominal fee for uniforms.

Rehearsals

Location: Mineral Palace Park
Percussion:  Monday, July 14 - Friday, July 25, 2025 from 6:00pm-8:00pm · Monday - Friday

Full band: Saturday July 26, 2025 from 8:00am-12:00pm · Monday, July 28 - Friday, August 8, 2025 from 8:30am-11:00am · Monday - Friday

Starting Monday, August 11, 2025 rehearsals will be held in the evenings due to D70 starting school.

Monday, August 11 - Friday, August 22, 2025 from 6:00pm-7:30pm · Monday - Friday


Final performance: Colorado State Fair Parade Saturday, August 23, 2025 

Do you have to tryout?


To be in the band itself or flags, tryouts are not required. However, there will be tryouts for those interested in Drum Major. If you are interested in Drum Major and have been a member of Sun City for at least one year, please contact Mr. Emery. Percussionists will try out for parts according to instruments available. Sun City owns its own percussion instruments. To tryout, contact Mark Emery at (719) 602-7624.

Fun!


Sun City Band take lots of trips and performs throughout the state. Performances will include Elitch Gardens, the Carnation Festival Parade in Wheatridge, the Western Welcome Parade in Littleton, the Arkansas Valley Fair Parade in Rocky Ford and the Colorado State Fair Parade in Pueblo. The Sun City Band provides transportation to all out-of-town activities. The fun also includes pool and pizza parties!

Staff


Our staff consists of instrumental specialists including college music majors and local professional music educators. The Sun City Band is directed by Mr. Mark Emery for over 30 years. Mr. Emery was the director of the six-time Colorado State Marching Band Champion, Pueblo County High School and past director of the Centennial High School Band.
