IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Extended Temporary Closure of the Arkansas River Trail for New Pedestrian Bridge Installation
PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department has extended the temporary closure of the section of the north and south side of the Arkansas River Trail. This temporary closure is for the installation of another pedestrian suspension bridge. The closure of the trail is approximately one mile distance on both sides of the river.
“We were expecting all the material for the bridge would arrive on time,” said Director of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Steven Meier. “Due to the delayed delivery of the cable for the pedestrian bridge that was being shipped from Italy, we are forced to extend the temporary closure,” said Meier.
The Arkansas River Trail is closed from the Main St. bridge to Runyon Lake on the north side of the trail and on the south side of the trail from Main St. bridge to the Moffat St. trailhead access point. Closure for the trail began on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, for construction and installation of the new pedestrian suspension bridge. The trailhead access point at the Main St. bridge is also still closed due to construction.
The Parks and Recreation Department is anticipating the reopening of the trail after the bridge installation is completed, which is now scheduled at the beginning of the summer in 2023. Pueblo Parks and Recreation will update the public of any additional information necessary during the closure of the trail as it becomes available.

Pueblo River Trail System
The Pueblo River Trail System, stretching along the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek, is available for bicycling and other outdoor recreational activities. Please note that both pedestrians and bicyclists use the River Trail paths.
However, bicyclists should always yield the right of way to pedestrians and ride at a reasonable and safe speed.
