On August 4, 2024, at approximately 09:29 A.M., The Pueblo Police Department received a 911 call regarding a male with a gun who was making suicidal and homicidal statements in the 1700 block of E. 12th Street. The reporting party would not give the actual address of the residence but identified the male with a gun as his family member.
Dispatch was able to determine the address and had Officers respond, but initially were not able to locate anyone. Officers spoke to a nearby neighbor who reported hearing arguing and possibly a loud “boom” but they were unsure of the area or location of the sound.
As officers continued to investigate the incident, a male party stepped out onto the porch of a residence carrying a shotgun. He did not immediately point the gun at any officers but held it out in front of him demanding to be shot. The Officers showed great restraint and did not fire. The male walked to the back of the residence and fired multiple shotgun rounds into the air before coming back to the front of the house. The male then leveled his shotgun towards one of the officers on scene, who in return, fired one round. The male was not struck by the bullet.
The Male retreated into his residence, but then jumped into his pickup truck, and rammed a marked Pueblo Police Department patrol car as he fled the scene. The male returned a few seconds later pulling back into the driveway. He came out of the truck without the gun and was taken into custody. The male was taken to the hospital and cleared medically and later booked into Pueblo County Detention Center for Felony Menacing, Prohibited use of a Weapon, and Reckless Driving.
