Pueblo Police Investigate First Homicide of 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 9, 2026 

PUEBLO POLICE INVESTIGATE FIRST HOMICIDE IN 2026       

Pueblo, CO - On February 7, 2026, at approximately 6:34 PM, officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Days Inn located at 4201 N. Elizabeth. Tragically, a male individual was pronounced deceased at the scene following an argument that escalated. 

Detectives have arrested 63-year-old James McKenney for First Degree Murder. 

The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim once appropriate notifications are made. 

This marks the City’s first homicide of 2026. There were zero homicides year-to-date in 2025.
