
Report of car fire becomes homicide investigation.
On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at approximately 9:31 P.M., officers responded to the 500 block of East Mesa Avenue to investigate a report of a car on fire. While officers were responding to the scene, callers reported hearing gunshots before seeing the car on fire. When officers arrived, they found an adult male inside the car. When the male was taken out of the car, officers observed injuries that appeared to be gunshot wounds. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Detectives responded and are investigating this incident as a homicide.
No suspect has been taken into custody at this time. Updated information will be released when it becomes available. This is the thirteenth homicide investigation of 2023. This incident is not related to the homicide that occurred at Lambert Avenue and West 17th Street.
The deceased male will be identified by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office at the appropriate time.
