Around 3 PM on Saturday August 31, officers were dispatched to the area of 8th St. and Albany on a suicidal female threatening to jump off of the 8th Street Bridge. As officers were en-route to the location a concerned citizen by the name of Nick Lopez called 911 and informed police dispatch that the female had climbed over the railing and was standing over I-25 threatening to jump into the traffic below.
First to arrive to the scene was Officer Brandon Beauvais and Sgt. Kevin Jackson. They immediately observed the female standing on the edge of the Bridge outside of the rail over the southbound lanes of traffic. They also noticed Mr. Lopez talking to the suicidal female, keeping her occupied. The officers immediately formulated a plan to grab and secure the female while she was distracted. They were able to quickly and safely grab the female and drag her back over the bridge railing to safety.
An ambulance was summoned to the scene and the female was subsequently transported to a local hospital to get her the help she needed.
The Pueblo Police Department would like to commend Officer Brandon Beauvais, Sgt. Kevin Jackson and citizen Nick Lopez for their quick actions that saved the life of the distraught female. Good job to all!
