[ARCHIVED] Pueblo Police Chief Announces Promotion of Troy Davenport to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police.

City of Pueblo Police Chief Luis Velez has announced that he is promoting Police Captain Troy Davenport to the position of Deputy Police Chief.
The promotion was announced Thursday morning and will take effect September 8, 2011.
Davenport began his law enforcement career in 1989 in the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Department. He came to the Pueblo Police Department in 1994. Over the next almost 20 years, he has worked in many capacities, as Patrol Officer, a DARE officer, as a Detective, as a School Resource Officer, a Sergeant, then Captain.
Most recently, Davenport has led the Internal Affairs Section, the Police Department’s Training Section, as well as SRO/DARE and Code Enforcement Divisions.
It is that wide range of experience that Chief Velez felt was important in bringing Davenport on board as a new Deputy Chief.
“In my six months with the department, I have had almost daily contact with Troy Davenport based on his position in Internal Affairs,” he says. “I have seen him in a wide range of circumstances dealing with people and I have been impressed by his ability to communicate, by his character, his integrity, and his decision making.”
Davenport earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration in May of this year at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
His stellar background also includes:

  • Service in the United States Naval Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman as well as 90 days spent in a combat zone during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
  • Graduation from the FBI National Academy and membership in the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates
  • Chair of the “Core management” Team for the Pueblo City Schools Safe Schools Healthy Student Initiative
  • Participation in many civic associations benefitting citizens of all ages in Pueblo.
Davenport says he is honored by his selection to his new job and duties.
“I am just extremely honored to have been given this opportunity to serve the community in this capacity,” he says. “I am grateful that the Chief and City Manager have this level of confidence in me.”
The new Deputy Chief is married to Mary Davenport, and they have three children. Davenport joins Michael Bennett and Andy McLachlan as Deputy Chiefs on the Pueblo Police Department.
