Update
Pueblo Police arrested 20-year-old, Ruben Arturo Velez for 1st Degree Murder in the shooting that occurred in the 500 block of Erie Ave on June 17th, 2024.
Previous Release
On June 17th, 2024, at approximately 12:38 p.m., Pueblo Police responded to the 900 block of East 7th Street with a report of shots fired. Police determined this was a traveling disturbance involving several vehicles with shots fired. Police found an adult female victim in the 500 block of Erie Avenue with apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim was declared deceased on scene. Pueblo Police crimes against persons detectives and crime scene investigations units are investigating this death as a homicide investigation.
At approximately 2:28 p.m., Police located the suspect driving a stolen vehicle in the southside of Pueblo. After a short vehicular pursuit and foot pursuit the suspect was captured. This is an active and ongoing investigation, and updates will be provided to the public as more information becomes available.
The victim in this incident will be identified by the Pueblo County Coroner after appropriate notifications. The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. This is the 12th homicide in Pueblo in 2024.
