
UPDATE - HOMICIDE
On Sunday, January 07, 2024, Pueblo PD officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of West U.S. Highway 50. When officers arrived, they found evidence of shots being fired and were told a vehicle had driven away from the scene. A short time later, The Communications Center received a phone call from a person who said they had been in a car in the 700 block of West U.S. Highway 50 when someone began shooting at them. The caller said they drove away and were near the intersection of Jerry Murphy Road and Desert Flower Boulevard. The caller reported two people in the vehicle had been shot. Officers responded and located an adult male and an adult female, later identified as 26-year-old AaLiyah Chacon who both appeared to have been shot. Both the male and Chacon were transported to a local hospital where the Chacon succumbed to her injuries. Detectives were notified and are conducting this investigation as a homicide. During this investigation, it was discovered the suspects were in a silver Kia Rio.
Later in the day on January 07, 2024, Patrol Officers observed a silver Kia Rio on the east side of Pueblo. An officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended up going north on the Interstate and then through other streets eventually ending up westbound on U.S. Highway 50 West. The vehicle drove around several sets of stop sticks and continued into the Canon City area. Freemont County Sheriff's Office, Colorado State Patrol, and Canon City Police Department assisted for a short time until the vehicle wrecked into a fence and the driver and passenger exited running on foot. A short time later, one of the suspects, 21-year-old Davonte Evans was found deceased. A second suspect, 19-year-old Jordan Zeigler was located and booked into Fremont County Jail on charges of theft and possession of a concealed weapon.
The homicide investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown at this time if Evans and Zeigler are suspects.
