City of Pueblo Press Release Header for Electric Vehicle Award for PPD

PUEBLO—The Pueblo Police Department was recently recognized by Drive Clean Colorado with the 2023 Fleet Leadership Award for outstanding achievements of member fleets. The award, which was announced at the Drive Clean Colorado Summit in October, was presented in person to the police department today by A.J. Samora, Drive Clean Colorado’s Regional Coordinator.

“The Pueblo Police Department is grateful to be recognized by Drive Clean Colorado as our department is leading the way for electrification and clean energy in the workplace,” said Pueblo Police Department Chief Chris Noeller.

The City of Pueblo expects to have the police fleet updated with nearly 20% Electric Vehicles (EV) by the end of 2024. Pueblo Police Department has installed three charging stations at the police station, which include two dual-port Level 2 chargers and one dual-port Level 3 charger. The police department fleet currently has nine Ford Mustang Mach-Es in its fleet. Pueblo PD is set to receive five more Mach-Es and is in the process of ordering several Ford F-150 Lightnings within the next calendar year.

“The City of Pueblo is honored to receive this award with Drive Clean Colorado because we are committed to clean energy in our community and electrifying our Police fleet is one of the steps to get us there,” said Mayor of Pueblo Nick Gradisar. “This is an important initiative for my vision as mayor of Pueblo and for the City’s commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2035, the Police Department is proud to be part of this solution.”

The Pueblo Police Department was recognized with the 2023 Fleet Leadership Award for leading the way in law enforcement fleet electrification with the most EV patrol vehicles deployed in the state and with plans for more to come.

“Drive Clean Colorado is pleased to recognize the Pueblo Police Department with our 2023 Fleet Leadership Award for leading the way in law enforcement fleet electrification with the most EV patrol vehicles deployed in the state and with plans for more to come,” said Bonnie Trowbridge, Executive Director for Drive Clean Colorado. “Pueblo’s visionary leadership demonstrates their commitment to clean air and the well-being of the community and, more broadly, the state.” Pueblo Police Department was honored alongside Aurora Public Schools and Via Mobility Services.

In 2017, the City of Pueblo committed to obtaining 100% of its electric energy from renewable energy sources by 2035. The City of Pueblo has proactively prepared their fleet technicians for the increasing number of EVs in various city departments which at this time in addition to the Police Department includes Parks and Recreation and Public Works. These technicians have attended EV safety training sessions and workshops with plans to collaborate with Ford Motor Company for future application-specific training sessions, ensuring they stay ahead of the curve has they plan for future adoption.
