Colorado State Historical Fund (SHF). Must be listed on a local, state, and/or national register to qualify for State Historic Fund grants. Administrated by History Colorado’s SHF staff.
The Preservation of Historic Structures Tax Credit (State Tax Credit). Must be listed on a local, and/or state register to qualify for state tax credit. Administrated primarily by the Colorado Office of Economic Development. History Colorado assists with application review.
Colorado’s Historic Preservation Tax Credits:
- A 20% federal tax credit for the rehabilitation of certified historic buildings used for income-producing purposes
- A 20% - 35% state tax credit for the rehabilitation of historic, owner-occupied residences
- A 20% -35% state tax credit for the rehabilitation of historic buildings used for income-producing purposes
How to apply. History Colorado is the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office. They will review rehabilitation/restoration projects to determine what qualified for grant or tax credits. Some applications or work might need a preservation consultant.
