Identification Section

The Identification Section, also known as Crime Scene Investigations (CSI), is responsible for a multitude of tasks associated with the collection and processing of physical evidence. The section performs such functions as the processing of crime scenes (in which physical evidence is collected and processed), processing and collection of fingerprints, identification of suspects and elimination of victims as suspects, photography, video enhancements, laboratory examinations.

Detectives assigned to the section learn the required skills through specialized training as well as on-the-job training. The need for the processing of crime scenes requires that section detectives be available for call-out at all times of the day. The detectives' involvement in the cases in which they process crime scenes also requires them to be in court a great deal of time, where they usually testify as experts in forensics and crime scene investigation.
