Pueblo, CO— Pueblo Police detectives have worked diligently to gather sufficient evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for David Michael Lucero, 18, in the death of Ian Martinez, 31, on July 28, 2025. Lucero was in custody in Colorado Springs on a parole hold. He was served with a warrant for First-Degree Murder after Deliberation on Aug. 18, one day after his 18th birthday. Lucero was transported to and booked into the Pueblo County Jail, where he remains in custody with a cash-only bond set at $3,000,000.
Martinez’s death was recorded as Pueblo’s seventh homicide in 2025; there were 15 homicides year-to-date in 2024. A homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another. This classification does not indicate a determination of lawfulness.

Pueblo Police Investigate Seventh Homicide of 2025
Pueblo, CO― On July 28, 2025, at approximately 9:08 a.m., the Pueblo Police Department received information on a possible shooting in the 600 block of E Arroyo Ave. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male in the street with an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Pueblo County Coroner will identify the deceased victim after the appropriate notifications.
Detectives with the Pueblo Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Division responded quickly to investigate the incident. This is an isolated incident and there does not appear to be a continued danger to the public. The investigation is ongoing with no determination of charges at the time of the release.
This marks the seventh homicide in 2025; there were 15 homicides year-to-date in 2024. A homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another. This classification does not indicate a determination of lawfulness.
