PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo Wastewater Department is hosting a community meeting for citizens to learn about the sewer system rehabilitation program on the west side of Pueblo. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. at YMCA located at 3200 E. Spaulding Ave.

“We invite the public to learn more about groundwater infiltration and how it affects the City’s mains and service laterals, specifically on the west side of Pueblo,” said Director of Wastewater for the City of Pueblo Andra Ahrens. “We want to help educate what this means for our wastewater treatment and help our residents understand the next phase of work to address these issues.”

The City’s Wastewater Department is implementing a proactive program to reduce groundwater infiltration in the sanitary sewer system. The current phase includes surveying and assessing the west side of town. The assessment sewer mains and service laterals from 26th Street to Bancroft Avenue, between Atlanta Avenue and Denver Boulevard.

Aging infrastructure is vulnerable to groundwater infiltration, and this area is known for high groundwater infiltration. This community meeting is meant to help individuals understand how this affects the overall wastewater operations.

PUEBLO—Walking Stick Golf Course was recently named the number one public golf course in Southern Colorado by Colorado AvidGolfers readers in the Best of Colorado Golf CAGGYs 2026. Thousands of readers and golfer voted for the “Best Southern Course” where Walking Stick Golf Course rose to the top.

PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo invites residents, local businesses, nonprofits and other community partners to participate in the second annual “Lucky to Live in Pueblo” social media campaign. The campaign runs March 15 through March 22 and is primarily focused on positive sentiment on social media to highlight why people love Pueblo.

“We launched this initiative last year around St. Patrick’s Day because we associate luck with the holiday, then chose to run it through March 22 because it’s recognized as Pueblo Flag Day,” said Director of Public Affairs Haley Sue Robinson. “It’s a short timeframe to encourage everyone to share what they love about our community.”

Throughout the campaign the City of Pueblo will feature short testimonials from Mayor Heather Graham, members of Pueblo City Council, City employees and residents of Pueblo. Businesses, nonprofits and community partners were asked to participate with their own testimonials from themselves or employees and to use the hashtag #LuckyToLiveInPueblo to brand the campaign.

The Pueblo Police Department serves as part of The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (Denver) team consisting of federal, state, and local law enforcement called “The FBI Southern Colorado Safe Streets Task Force” in an effort to identify, apprehend and prosecute violent criminals located within our communities.

Edward Martinez, 55, is described as a Hispanic male, 5’10” tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Martinez has a warrant for Homicide – Attempted First Degree Murder. His bond amount is $1,000,000.

Stephanie Sanchez-Garza, 40, is described as a Hispanic female, 5’02” tall, 163 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Sanchez-Garza has a warrant for Assault which includes the following Charges: At-Risk-Assault – Cause Injury with a Weapon, Attempted At-Risk-Robbery - Aggravated Robbery – Wound/ Strike with a Weapon. Her bond is $10,000.

On March 10, 2026, the Pueblo Police Department responded to a report of suspicious activity in the area of East 6th Street & Erie Ave after Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) Technician observed a male pushing a motorcycle under suspicious circumstances. 

Officers conducted an area search and contacted the individual, identified as 51-year-old Michael Salas. During the contact, officers verified Salas’s identity and learned he had an active municipal warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident.

During a search incident to arrest, officers located a backpack worn underneath Salas’s jacket. Inside the backpack, officers found a large bag containing a substance consistent with methamphetamine. A further search of Salas’s person revealed an additional bag containing suspected fentanyl pills. 

The narcotics were taken to the Pueblo Police Department, where field tests confirmed positive results for both methamphetamine and fentanyl. Approximately 90 grams of methamphetamine and nine grams of fentanyl pills were seized quantities consistent with distribution.

Michael Salas, a multi-convicted felon, with an extensive criminal history, was transported to the Pueblo County Judicial Center for Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Three Failure to Appear Municipal Warrants (potentially dangerous animal- animal at large, vaccinations, repeat Failure To Appear).

New LED video wall brings focus and clarity to critical data and imagery

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sept. 25, 2025 – The Pueblo Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) in Colorado has a new eye on crime with an LED video wall from Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. In collaboration with High Point Networks, a trusted IT provider with a focus on cybersecurity and communications, the installation was brought to life to help visualize critical data, information and imagery that assists the center in carrying out its purpose for the community.

As one of the first centers of its kind in the state of Colorado, the Pueblo Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center focuses on monitoring and preventing crime in the community with a specialty in video capture and surveillance. It relies on “ShotSpotter” technology with sensors in high-crime areas to send alerts to the crime center within 60 seconds of a gunshot being fired.

Pueblo’s RTCC provides law enforcement with real-time data and actionable intelligence to effectively combat crime and improve response times. By integrating advanced technologies and analytics, the center supports the Pueblo Police Department in making informed decisions and deploying resources more efficiently.

The Pueblo Police Department recently hosted the City of Pueblo Community Connect Open House, featuring the new initiative designed to boost public safety and strengthen community collaboration. The program connects local businesses' security camera systems to the city-wide RTCC. During the open house, Deputy Chief James Martin of the Pueblo Police Department mentioned that the RTCC recently observed a hand-to-hand drug transaction through the Daktronics screen, clearly allowing for the positive identification of the suspect, the drug being sold and additional involved persons.

Video Display Details

High Point Networks contributed a robust and secure network infrastructure, ensuring seamless communication and data flow within the RTCC. Daktronics equipped the center with a high-resolution 1.2-millimeter dvLED video wall, allowing for comprehensive monitoring and swift situational assessments. The LED video wall measures approximately 7 feet high by 12 feet wide and is also Trade Agreement Act (TAA) Compliant because Daktronics rigorously tests for quality performance standards and designs and assembles the final display system, including the display interface, in their facility in Brookings, South Dakota.

The technology is capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show multiple zones or screens of differing content to share all the critical information needed for the RTCC to operate at a high level.

Community Encouraged to complete an online survey

PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo is planning major transportation upgrades to improve safety, accessibility, and connectivity on the west side, and public input is needed.

Two projects are currently in the planning and design phase: the Sun Mountain Roadway Project and the West Side Bus Stop Rehabilitation Project. Together, these initiatives will make it safer and easier to get around Pueblo’s west side whether by foot, bike, car or bus.

The Sun Mountain Roadway Project will create a new connection between 24th Street and 31st Street, including two roundabouts designed to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes.

The West Side Bus Stop Rehabilitation Project will create or upgrade approximately 67 bus stops to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, enhancing access and safety for all riders—especially seniors, individuals with disabilities, and others who rely on public transit.

“These upgrades will boost west side connectivity in the City and support safe, reliable travel options for everyone,” said a City of Pueblo Acting Director of Public Works Chuck Roy.

Both projects are fully funded by a $16.8 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. A public hearing date will be announced with more details soon.
