Serving as an effective municipal elected official requires dedication, knowledge and a substantial commitment in time. No matter what the motivation or background, as a member of the municipal governing body and other elected positions, individuals have the opportunity to make important contributions toward shaping the future of the community.
In order to present informed and educated candidates for all elected municipal positions, a Pre-Election Orientation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers – Interim City Hall, 301 W. “B” Street
The session is open to all individuals who have already announced their intentions to run for an elected office or who are simply contemplating running. The informational session is also open to issue committees who will be formed to campaign either for or against ballot issues if there are any for the City.
Elected offices to be elected at the November 5, 2013 Municipal Election are:

2 City Council member, At Large 4 -Year Term Expiring December 31, 2017
1 City Council member, District #1 4 -Year Term Expiring December 31, 2017
1 City Council member, District #3 4 -Year Term Expiring December 31, 2017
1 Civil Service Commissioner 6 -Year Term Expiring December 31, 2019
2 Members of the Board of Water Works 6 -Year Term Expiring December 31, 2019
Issues to be reviewed and discussed during the orientation include candidate’s qualifications, what to expect as a candidate; the election requirements; the election forms and nominating petitions; serving as an elected official; and what to expect once you become am elected official.
The orientation is the first of what is anticipated to become a regular session during the municipal election years.
