[ARCHIVED] Drew Dix Park improvements to begin

On Wednesday, May 29, the City of Pueblo and volunteers will begin work on a multi-phase project at the Drew Dix Park by clearing out evergreen trees in specific areas of the park. In accordance with Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) practices the City will eliminate hidden areas within the park, deterring illegal activity. This practice has been implemented in other areas throughout the City and along the river trails. The trees will be replaced with shade and ornamental trees later this year.

The City is working with the Veterans Council in replacing the playground equipment. According to Steven Meier, Interim Director of Parks and Recreation, “The neighborhood park was developed in the early 1970’s and the playground equipment has deteriorated beyond repairs and needs to be replaced.” Neighborhood residents were invited to attend a public meeting on April 30, 2013 to provide ideas of what they would like to have in their park. From their feedback, a plan with several options regarding placement of the playground area and a variety of amenities is being created.

The City will host another public meeting for the neighbors to finalize the plans for the park. For more information on this project or if you would like to be place on the contact list for future public meetings, please call the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department at 719-553-2790.
