PUEBLO –Arbor Day, a cherished tradition in Pueblo for over four decades, will once again bring together the community to celebrate the beauty and importance of trees. This year, Pueblo Parks and Recreation is thrilled to announce a special partnership with Columbian Elementary School, making the event even more meaningful.
Join Pueblo Parks and Recreation on Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 PM at Columbian Elementary School as we gather to honor the legacy of Pueblo as a Tree City. Columbian Elementary School is located at 1203 Palmer Ave., Pueblo, CO 81004.
The Arbor Day celebration includes a proclamation read by City Council President, Mark Aliff and presented to the Columbian Elementary School Principal Jimmie Pool and students and the announcement of the Columbian Elementary School Arbor Day poster contest winners. The top three winners of each Pre-K class of Columbian Elementary will receive a tree of their own to plant, donated by the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department. The celebration will be concluded by planting a Flowering Crabapple tree by the poster winners on the grounds of Columbian Elementary.
“Arbor Day is not just a celebration, but a testament to our dedication to the environment and determined to uphold this tradition for generations to come,” said Forestry Coordinator Charlie Kuntz.
The Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department has made the Arbor Day celebration a tradition throughout Pueblo for over 40 years. The Tree City USA program began in 1976 by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. The program provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities across the Unites States. The City of Pueblo has been a proud Tree City USA community for 44 consecutive years.
