PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo is inviting the community to attend the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the new Mineral Palace Park Pickleball Courts on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at 10 a.m. at 151 E. 19th Street, 81003.

“The City of Pueblo and the Pueblo Parks and Recreation is excited about adding the eight pickleball courts to our existing elaborate parks system” said Director of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Steven Meier. “We have been working on this project for over five years and it’s wonderful to see this stage complete.”

In March of 2022, Pueblo City Council approved funding for the build of eight pickleball courts at Mineral Palace Park to be completed this year. The courts are located at the north end of the park where former tennis courts existed. The demand for pickleball in Pueblo has been growing with many residents using the tennis courts at Pueblo City Park to play before this construction at Mineral Palace Park. Future improvements to the site may include shade shelters, lights for individuals to play in the evening, benches and the potential of four additional courts.

Pickleball is among one of the fastest growing recreation sports in the country and uses plastic wiffle balls and paddles similar to ping pong or table tennis. The rules and play of the game are a combination of table tennis or ping pong, badminton and tennis.

Never seen a Pickleball match before? Stick around after the ribbon cutting for the exhibition doubles match between Mayor of Pueblo Nick Gradisar and City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation’s Director Steven Meier who will each be paired with a member of the Pueblo County Pickleball Association.
