RTA Phase III Pueblo Aquatics Center Master Plan – Community Presentation

PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo is inviting the community to attend the final public presentation of the RTA Phase III Pueblo Aquatics Center Master Plan on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Pueblo Convention Center, 320 Central Main St.

“The City of Pueblo and the Pueblo Parks and Recreation is inviting the community this presentation because we want to keep our community informed and help them feel included in decision-making process of the proposed RTA Pueblo Aquatics Center Master Plan,” said Director of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Steven Meier. “We are looking forward to presenting the RTA Phase III development to encourage excitement for the next steps in the process and provide communication of this propose aquatic and recreation center.”

In 2019, a task force was created consisting of representatives from the City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department, City Council, Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority (PURA), Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo (HARP), Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, and Pueblo School District No.60 to begin the initial planning process for Pueblo’s Regional Tourism Act (RTA) Phase III for a proposed state-of-the-art regional aquatic/recreation center.

In 2020, the City of Pueblo advertised for proposals for preliminary (schematic) design services related to the construction of a new municipal indoor aquatic/recreation center to be centrally located near the Pueblo Convention Center and the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk in downtown Pueblo. On April 26, 2021, Resolution 14601 was approved by City Council to award a contract to Perkins & Will, Inc. for design services as part of Capital Project No. CI2109 – Pueblo Aquatics Center Master Plan.

First public meeting was held on Aug. 5, 2021, via ZOOM. Following this meeting, it was determined that a short, on-line, community survey would be needed to gain information to determine aquatic priorities for our community. The survey was randomly distributed within the identified projected service area. Approximately 300 targeted responses were received.

In March of 2022, Perkins & Will presented the RTA Phase III Aquatic Center Master Plan Draft Report to the RTA Aquatic Center Planning Committee. This public meeting is the next step for presentation and development of the RTA Phase III Pueblo Aquatics Center Master Plan.
