Pueblo Police Department Presents FARO Focus Laser Scanner

PUEBLO—Pueblo Police Department hosted Senator Michael Bennet on Friday, Aug. 25 for a FARO Focus Laser Scanner demonstration. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet assisted with congressionally directed spending for the purchase of the equipment to assist the Pueblo Police Department operation.

“The Pueblo Police Department is grateful to Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper, for the opportunity to purchase this FARO technology for our investigation purposes, assist with our planning for events or emergency management,” said Chief of Pueblo Police Department Chris Noeller. “This will help with our staffing concerns and allows for more accurate and cutting-edge technology to assist with our investigations which saves time and increases our attention to details.”

This is the first ever congressional directed spending dollars received by the City of Pueblo. The FARO technology assists with staffing power and levels for the Pueblo Police Department, taking what was a three-person job to a one-person job with scene documentation and post-scene reconstruction, as well as emergency management and pre-event planning.

The FARO Focus Laser Scanners capture the measurements of indoor and outdoor crime scenes with accuracy no longer taking days or weeks to accomplish. This technology captures 3D and realistic representation of a location or multiple locations scanned by Pueblo Police Department for investigation or planning purposes. The scan mode for the FARO Focus Premium Laser Scanner combines the accuracy of a 3D scan with the speed of a panoramic camera which enables fast scans in under three minutes with colorized 540-degree images.

“I am deeply grateful for law enforcement officers across Colorado who step up to protect our communities at great personal risk,” said U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado. “To help them do their job and focus on violent crimes, we need to give law enforcement the tools they need to conduct their investigations efficiently. That’s why I worked to secure this funding which will enable the City of Pueblo to invest in their public safety infrastructure, and why I’ll keep working in Washington to support Colorado’s law enforcement officers in every way I can.”

At this time, Pueblo Police Department has five personnel trained to utilize the FARO Focus Laser Scanner and by the end of fall of 2023, five more individuals will be trained alongside members of Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO). This technology allows for cross-training and shared equipment of the Pueblo Police Department and PCSO allowing for increased mutual aid and cooperation.
