On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at approximately 9:59 p.m., Pueblo Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Gaylord Avenue in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Upon officers’ arrival, a vehicle was found upside down in a yard, and witnesses informed officers that there was also a juvenile male lying on the ground. The juvenile was quickly transported to a local hospital for his injuries.
Witnesses observed two females standing around the vehicle who walked towards the Alta Convenience Store, where they were picked up by a brown or tan Ford Explorer.
The Traffic Division and Crime Scene Investigators responded to assist officers with the investigation, which revealed the vehicle was northbound on Prairie Avenue and turned eastbound onto Thatcher Avenue. The vehicle appeared to be out of control and drove up on the sidewalk, where it collided with a chain link fence and began to roll over. The vehicle rolled across Gaylord Avenue, where it came to rest. It was determined that the juvenile victim was walking toward The Alta Convenience Store when he was struck by the vehicle.
Despite life-saving measures, the juvenile victim succumbed to his injuries. The Pueblo Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of the victim of this tragedy.
