On April 3, 2023, at approximately 7:00 A.M., officers were dispatched to a call involving a Motor Vehicle Theft in the 3300 block of Morris Avenue. The driver momentarily left the vehicle unattended. The driver returned to see someone driving off with the vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle in the drive-through of a local restaurant on Pueblo’s south side. One officer approached the vehicle from the front and a second officer approached the vehicle from the rear to box the vehicle in. The suspect tried to flee by driving backwards, narrowly missing the police vehicle that was behind him but colliding with an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot. The suspect then drove forward, ramming the police vehicle in front of him, causing extensive damage to the police vehicle.
The driver, 24-year-old Izia Weybright, fled the vehicle on foot heading eastbound across Pueblo Boulevard where he was taken into custody without incident a short distance away. Officers searched Weybright and located a .22 caliber revolver hidden in his boot.
Weybright was booked into Pueblo County Jail for 1st Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Felony Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, and three Restraining Order Violations. He also had a Contempt of Court warrant for Motor Vehicle Theft and a warrant for Unauthorized Absence.
