On March 15, 2023, at approximately 10:01 am, Officers responded to the area of the 2400 block of Lake Avenue, for a drive by shooting. Responding Officers learned a residence had been struck with gunfire, which penetrated an occupied trailer. No one reported any injuries from the drive by shooting. A general vehicle description (gray or green SUV) was given. Officers then observed a similar vehicle, not far from the scene, at Brown and Jones. Officers observing the vehicle provided a description of the driver wearing a gray hoodie, which officers on scene confirmed was consistent with the suspect description.
The vehicle failed to yield, but ultimately crashed into a parked vehicle in the 1400 block of Wabash Ave. Additional Officers in the area, responded and the two occupants of the vehicle, 20-year-old Fred Maisel, and 18-year-old Adam Ruiz, were taken into custody without incident. A pistol and extended magazine were observed in plain sight in the vehicle, which was impounded pending a search warrant. Officers learned a parked vehicle was also struck by gunfire. Detectives assisted with the interviews and one of the suspects confessed to planning this incident. Both offenders will be booked on conspiracy to commit murder and multiple other charges. ###
