City of Pueblo Partners with NAACP Pueblo Branch for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo and National Association for Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Pueblo Branch have partnered for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 16. The City of Pueblo will host a cleanup site near El Pueblo History Museum for members of the Pueblo community to participate in a service opportunity.

“We were approached by the NAACP Pueblo Branch as part of their volunteer offerings to host a cleanup site near the downtown area on January 16 for an MLK Day of Service event,” said Director of Public Works Andrew Hayes. “The City is always eager to partner with community members for cleanup events and for opportunities to work together to make Pueblo a better place to live and work.”

The downtown area near El Pueblo History Museum was identified as a specific location to coordinate with the march organized by NAACP Pueblo Branch’s event which begins at noon on Monday. The march begins in the Mesa Junction near the Rawlings Library and concludes at the El Pueblo History Museum.

The cleanup event with the City of Pueblo begins at 1:45 p.m. at the conclusion of the Martin Luther King Jr. march and program. Dumpsters, gloves and other supplies will be provided for volunteers.

“The NAACP Pueblo Branch in recognition of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believes service is an excellent way to be impactful,” said President of NAACP Pueblo Branch Roxana Mack. “We are excited to be partnering with the City of Pueblo this year on Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to serve our community in this cleanup effort.”

The City of Pueblo invites the public to join the efforts for the cleanup in the downtown area. The NAACP has also partnered with Rocky Mountain Service, Employment and Redevelopment (RMSER) for food basket organization and meal distributions. The RMSER service event takes place from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at 330 Lake Ave. The food distributions will take place at the conclusion of the march at El Pueblo History Museum.
