PUEBLO—The City of Pueblo continues to repair and maintain streets across the city as part of a $10 million road project and is partnering with Pueblo Water as they update a water main at the Northern Avenue and Hollywood Drive intersection. A road closure involving several streets near South High School and the surrounding neighborhood will take place Sept. 26-30.
Traffic access to and from Northern Avenue at the intersection of Lehigh and Hollywood will be impacted during construction. A road closure will be placed at the Lehigh Avenue and Stanford Avenue intersection continuing through Northern to Hollywood Drive and ending just before Baystate Avenue. Local traffic can gain access to and from Northern Avenue via alternate streets such as Clemson Drive, Vassar Avenue, Vinewood Lane and Wedgewood Drive. Traffic control routes with detours will be placed throughout the neighborhood at key intersections to allow the public to properly prepare for alternative routes in the area.
“While there will inevitably be some traffic delays in the area during construction, the coordination of the water line installation with the upcoming paving project will ultimately leave drivers with a safe and smooth road surface on Northern Avenue for years to come,” said Director of Public Works Andrew Hayes. “We appreciate drivers’ patience while we continue working to improve Pueblo’s roads.”
The timing of the water main installation was coordinated with Public Works of the City of Pueblo to accommodate an upcoming paving project on Northern Avenue. Completion of the two projects allows for key infrastructure upgrades to meet the Pueblo community’s needs.
“Pueblo Water takes advantage of every opportunity to reduce inconveniences to our customers. In partnering with the City of Pueblo on this project, we can ensure that our infrastructure under newly surfaced roadways is renewed with an expected service life for generations into the future,” said Scot Burbidge, Transmission, Distribution & Engineering Division Manager at Pueblo Water.
The water main upgrade project will take place in three phases. The first phase includes pipe installation and pavement repairs along Hollywood Drive from Baystate Avenue to Northern Avenue. The second phase takes place in the intersection of Northern Avenue and Hollywood Drive. A third phase will include a closure from the intersection of Lehigh and Northern to the intersection of Lehigh and Stanford. All phases of the project are anticipated to be complete by September 30.
