PUEBLO—Pueblo Transit received notice of award from the Colorado Energy Office with the Zero Fare for Better Air initiative. During the month of August, public transit agencies around the state of Colorado will take part in the free fare for residents made possible by Colorado Senate Bill 22-180, in partnership with the Colorado Energy Office which aims to reduce ground level ozone by increasing the use of public transit.
“Pueblo Transit is excited to participate in this Zero Fare for Better Air initiative with other cities across Colorado,” said Director of Pueblo Transit Ben Valdez. “Not only are we eliminating fees and barriers of access, but we are making our city and state a better place to live and work by reducing our carbon footprint,” said Valdez.
The free fare for all through the month of August includes both Pueblo Transit and Citi-Lift. Riders will be entered to receive a free 35-day unlimited ride pass for Pueblo Transit and Citi-Lift to be used after the month of August, one drawing will take place each week. A grand prize drawing on September 1 offers one year of free rides eligible for Transit and Citi-Lift.
Pueblo Transit has partnered with local organizations throughout the month of August to offer additional bus and shuttle services. Pueblo Transit will provide shuttle service to the Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado to the food distribution event on Aug. 17 at Praise Assembly on Troy Ave. from 11am to 1pm. Pueblo Transit also partnered with Southern Colorado Equity Alliance for free bus rides to Pueblo Pride Aug. 21 at Mineral Palace Park. Pueblo Transit will offer free bus shuttle services from downtown Pueblo Aug. 26-31 and the remaining of the Colorado State Fair.
“We are happy to offer these additional shuttle services for events throughout the month of August as a way to encourage people across the city to utilize public transit,” said Valdez. “We also hope people will realize how easy and convenient it is to utilize public transportation which will help with traffic and commuting for everyday life.”
Transit riders in Pueblo will benefit from the program as riders take transit for free from Aug. 1-31, during Colorado’s high ozone season. Residents of Pueblo are encouraged to take advantage of the Zero Fare for Better Air initiative by using transit to get to work, school, an appointment or a weekend exploring the city of Pueblo.
