PUEBLO—City of Pueblo Wastewater Department and the James R. Dilorio Water Reclamation Facility was recognized by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) with the Platinum Peak Performance Award for 8 years of 100 percent compliance. Pueblo’s Water Reclamation Facility achieved continuous compliance with all effluent limits, terms and conditions of its discharge permit in order to receive this Platinum Peak Performance Award.
“This Platinum Peak Performance Award is an exceptional and prestigious award for our facility and one that our Wastewater Department is extremely proud of to receive for the 8th continuous year,” said Interim Director of Wastewater Andra Ahrens. “We operate to provide efficient removal of pollutants in the wastewater from homes, business and industries with adherence to strict compliance regulations in order to keep the public and our surrounding region safe.”
The Pueblo Wastewater facility is a member of NACWA’s network of 350 public utility members nationwide. Of the 350 public utility members in NACWA’s network, 177 plants received some level of Peak Performance recognition. Pueblo is one of 14 plants to receive the Platinum Peak Performance 8 award signifying 8 years of continue compliance.
Effective maintenance of the Water Reclamation Facility is critical in maintaining compliance and providing the maintenance of sanitary sewer main throughout the City of Pueblo. The Water Reclamation Facility treats more than 10 million gallons of wastewater per day and is reclaimed through natural processes. Proper collection and treatment are essential for public health for residents of Pueblo and the surrounding region.
“Despite the many challenges and setbacks that we faced as a nation and a global community over the last three years, these NACWA member public utilities have been able to deliver consistent and reliable clean water services,” said Chief Executive Officer of NACWA Adam Krantz. “The herculean efforts by the staff and leadership of the over 350 utilities that comprise NACWA’s membership cannot be overstated, particularly their work as front line environmental first responders,” said Krantz.
The National Association of Clean Water Agencies announces the Platinum Award achievement performance recipients at the annual Utility Leadership Conference each year, which takes place July 24-27. The announcement of the award came Monday, July 25 at the 52nd Annual Meeting which is celebrating 50 years of the Clean Water Act.
“Truly, America’s public clean water utilities held steadfast in their commitment to serve and inspire their communities throughout the course of the pandemic,” said Krantz. “To that end, it is NACWA's great honor to bestow this year’s Excellence in Management and Platinum Peak Performance Awards to these extraordinary member clean water utilities.”
Krantz continued, “Collectively, they represent the forward-thinking and civic-minded environmental stewardship that is the hallmark of today’s public water sector utilities. Congratulations!”
