Notice of Council Member Ray Aguilera’s Health

PUEBLO – Council Member Ray Aguilera was just off camera during the January 25 City Council Work Session when you can hear other Council Members shout for help. Ray had just suffered a heart attack. He was rushed to Parkview hospital for treatment, took a few weeks for recovery, and in true “Ray” fashion, was back at the City Council dais almost a month later.

Earlier this week, Ray’s daughter, Andrea, notified the City of her father’s declining health. Ray has been moved to Denver to be with his daughter and is now under hospice care.

Ray is in his 14th year of service on Pueblo’s City Council, encompassing two different terms, as a representative of District 4. Ray is a heroic advocate for Pueblo’s Bessemer neighborhoods. A favorite project of his is the Bessemer Holiday Extravaganza which gives away some 1,200 stockings, thousands of pounds of food items, and gift certificates annually.

Aguilera is also active with the Pueblo Area Council of Governments, Bessemer Redevelopment Board, and the Caring for Colorado Board of Directors.

“Get Well” cards may be sent to City Hall: 1 City Hall Place, Pueblo, CO 81003.
