Mayor Receives Valuable Input From 1st Meeting of Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council

YAC

PUEBLO – Mayor Nick Gradisar held the first ever Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council to address issues facing Pueblo’s young leaders on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council is an initiative by Mayor Gradisar to have Pueblo’s young leaders provide the Mayor input on issues facing them but also these young Puebloans will be tasked to develop a community service project to benefit youth in the city.

On Tuesday, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council met virtually for over an hour for an introductory discussion on areas of concern to them. The council raised to the Mayor critical issues such as the employment crisis facing some of Pueblo’s families during the pandemic, mental health issues, amenities available to people under-21, and opportunities within the city.

“I want to thank these 24 outstanding high school students for helping to guide my administration on issues facing Pueblo’s youth. We have a lot of work to do to build a more equitable city where people of all ages and backgrounds can reach their potential in Pueblo and that starts with this council,” said Mayor Gradisar. “I was elected on platform that we can build an economy to support young people where if they want to stay in Pueblo, we provide the opportunities to allow them to do that.

Over the course of next year, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council will hold virtual and possibly in-person meetings to help guide the Mayor’s administration.

The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council consists of 24 high school students from Central, Centennial, South, East High Schools, Dolores Huerta Preparatory School and Goal Academy.
