Mayor Announces 10 Pueblo Business Safety All-Stars Going Above and Beyond on COVID-19 Precautions

PUEBLO – The COVID-19 Education and Compliance Technician team has released their first list of Safety All-Stars comprised of 10 businesses to that have received “exemplary status” during a site visit that monitors COVID-19 violations.

“These businesses are doing a fantastic job keeping customers and staff safe,” said Mayor Nick Gradisar. “I hope to see all our Pueblo businesses on this list to show Colorado that Pueblo is leading the economic fight against COVID-19.”

The program has performed over 100 site visits since its launch on August 19.

“Our technicians have had very positive feedback and Pueblo businesses are very responsive,” said Karen Willson, program manager. “Businesses like Nacho’s Restaurant are going above and beyond to create a safe and clean environment.”

Businesses which provide innovative solutions and have zero COVID-19 safety violations are placed on a Business Safety All-Stars as a resource to customers and other businesses who are seeking business-to-business help.

Routine visits will occur through December 31, 2020. This list will change as technicians make return visits. The team will release their findings once a week.

The COVID-19 Education and Compliance Technician Program is funded through a CARES Act Grant. The program of 10 technicians and 1 date entry professional is managed by Karen Willson, Supervisor of Pueblo Code Enforcement.

When technicians see violations, their aim is to educate the business owner or manager to help bring their businesses up to COVID-19 compliance.  Technicians will not be issuing fines or tickets. Businesses unwilling to adhere to COVID-19 safety measures will be referred to the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment, which may result in fines or legal action.
