City of Pueblo Information Technology Department Receives National Award


The City of Pueblo’s Information Technology Department has been nationally recognized for its newly revamped website.

The department was honored with the ‘Pinnacle Award’ by the National Association of Government Web Professionals recently at the organization’s 2019 conference in Salt Lake City Utah.

The NAGW Awards are judged by a group of web professionals inside and outside the government web industry and are awarded to the best entries based on several criteria. Those criteria include team size, content, organization, design, performance and flexibility, accessibility, excellence in government web design and innovation.

According to NAGW President Leslie Labrecque the awards celebrate excellence in government web design and innovation and the extraordinary work done by web professionals with limited budgets and resources.

I.T. Director Lori Pinz feels the website redesign shows there is a way to provide the best service to citizens and at the same time making the best use of budget dollars

“Pueblo, like many cities across the country, must work within its available resources. When it comes the website content, we want to provide as up-to-date and accurate information to our citizens while making it easy to find and making it accessible from any device. Additionally, we want to make sure that we do this with a creative eye and within our budget.”

Bobby Cuomo has reshaped and redesigned the city’s website several times over the course of several years as web administrator. He worked closely with employees from the city’s fire, wastewater, parks and recreation, as well as I.T. departments in creating an updated look for the website.

“We started this project with a ‘mobile first’ design in mind. More and more people are using mobile devices and we wanted to make sure they get a great experience no matter which device they use.”

Those who worked on the site included Parks and Recs employees Mary Beth Roth and Mike Sexton, Andra Ahrens of the Wastewater Division, Chris Harner of the Fire Department, as well as Lori Pinz, Pradeep Diska, and Bobby Cuomo from Information Technology.

This is not the first time the Information Technology Department has received national recognition. It has won the prestigious Digital Cities award eight times over the past fifteen years.
