Wastewater Division Awarded for Five Years of Compliance with State Regs

Lunch today at the City of Pueblo’s Wastewater Division brought a big honor along with sandwiches and barbecue.

Department Director Nancy Keller was informed late last month that the James R. DiIorio Water Reclamation Facility has earned its first Platinum Peak Performance Award from the National Clean Water Association. The award recognizes five years of 100 percent compliance with Colorado discharge permit regulations. It’s a major honor for the department when even a minor infraction of standards can mean thousands of dollars a day in fines. The department has won eight Gold Performance awards in the past, but this was the first time it won such a prestigious award.

This afternoon, Keller hosted a luncheon with news of the award, the perfect icing on the cake.

“I’m so proud of my staff working hard to make sure we’re always in compliance. Today is a big ‘thank you.’

The actual award will be presented in Milwaukee on July 18th during NACWA’s national conference.

There are about sixty wastewater division employees, with around 25 directly answerable for this award.
