Mike Sexton, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Pueblo, was recently honored by receiving the 2017 Colorado Association for Recreational Athletics/BSN Sports LEGACY Award during the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association’s annual conference in Keystone, Colorado. This prestigious award is given annually to an outstanding Colorado recreation professional for their dedicated representation of CARA and CPRA.
The Award recognizes Mike, not only for his commitment and enthusiasm for recreational athletics in his community, but throughout the entire state of Colorado and the entire Rocky Mountain region. Mike had been involved in the Denver Broncos, National Football League/USA Football Punt, Pass, & Kick for over thirty years and was the chair of the Denver Broncos PPK Region for the last ten years. During his time as the chair, the Denver Broncos PPK Region was considered the best NFL Punt, Pass, & Kick program in the country. Because of his leadership, the NFL and USA Football selected Mike and his team of dedicated volunteers to host the 2014 National PPK Finals in Denver, Colorado.
Marc Rademacher, Recreation Manager for the City of Fort Collins quoted in Mike’s award nomination, “It is amazing to think of the thousands of Colorado youth, as well as youth from Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, Kansas, Utah, and New Mexico, that have had the opportunity to participate and gain unforgettable experiences because of Mike’s leadership in this program.”
Mike is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional and has served on the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association Executive Board as Secretary and as an At-Large member. He is a strong advocate of Parks and Recreation not only in Pueblo but across the state of Colorado.
