The Pueblo Police Department runs its own law enforcement training academy. Prospective recruit officers are put through a written test, background investigation, physical agility test, psychological exam and drug screen.
Candidates are then offered an entry Police Patrol Officer position with the police department and begin their career in the police academy. The academy is 20 weeks long and is academically rigorous. Recruits are taught law, search and seizure, policy and procedure and develop skills in shooting, driving and arrest control.
