educational, health and wellness benefits.  Gateway Plaza is designed to be a welcoming public event space and will exhibit Pueblo’s history through the commemorative Goodnight-Loving sculpture display. The display will artistically interpret and celebrate Pueblo’s western heritage, by telling the story of the Goodnight-Loving Trail.

In addition to extensive landscaping and lighting improvements, the project features will include such items as storm sewer upgrades, including a water quality improvement vault, a raised circular plaza, a recessed circular play area for children, connectivity to the Veteran’s Bridge, a signalized pedestrian crossing at Main Street, and provisions for outdoor events and vendor displays.

The project design was prepared by the Matrix Design Group with cooperation from the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk and Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority. Latcon Corporation (Pueblo, Colorado) was awarded the $2.7 Million contract. This  project was financed through an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant and from other sources.

Construction began in October 2018 and is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2019.
