If you are going into the 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade next year and have been in your school’s band for at least one year, the Sun City Band is for you! Sun City is an all-Pueblo, award winning, middle school marching band sponsored by the Pueblo Parks an Recreation Department in cooperation with Pueblo School District 60 and Pueblo County School District 70.
Cost and Important Dates
Registration: Friday, March 2–Monday, July 6
Registration fee: $55
Parent and uniform meeting: Wednesday, July 22
Rehearsals will be held at Mineral Palace Park.
Percussion: July 13–July 24, Monday–Friday, 6:00 pm–8:00 pm
Saturday, July 25, 8:00 am–12:00 pm
Monday, July 27–Friday, August 7, Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–11:00 am
Monday, August 10–Friday, August 21, Monday–Friday, 6:00 pm–7:30 pm
Final performance: Colorado State Fair Parade, Saturday, August 29
Do you have to tryout?
To be in the band itself or flags, tryouts are not required. However, there will be tryouts for those interested in Drum Major. If you are interested in Drum Major and have been a member of Sun City for at least one year, please contact Mr. Emery. Percussionists will try out for parts according to instruments available. Sun City owns its own percussion instruments. To tryout, contact Mark Emery at (719) 602-7624.
Sun City Band take lots of trips and performs throughout the state. Performances will include Elitch Gardens, the Carnation Festival Parade in Wheatridge, the Western Welcome Parade in Littleton, the Arkansas Valley Fair Parade in Rocky Ford and the Colorado State Fair Parade in Pueblo. The Sun City Band provides transportation to all out of town activities. The fun also includes pool and pizza parties!
Our staff consists of instrumental specialists including college music majors and local professional music educators. The Sun City Band is directed for the 26th year by Mr. Mark Emery. Mr. Emery was the director of the six-time Colorado State Marching Band Champion, Pueblo County High School and past director of the Centennial High School Band.
