A Strategic initiative and
goal for the Pueblo Fire Department is attaining the distinguished
Accreditation status through the Commission Fire Accreditation
International, which falls under the Center for Public Safety
Excellence. The CPSE program
will provide an excellent self- assessment process for the Pueblo Fire
Department.
 In April
2008, the Pueblo Fire Department became a Candidate Agency through
the CPSE. We are committed to providing customer service excellence
to the community and look forward to conducting this intense
self-assessment.
We are extremely proud
to announce that in August 2008, we have achieved the distinguished
Accreditation Status through the Center of Public
Safety Excellence. Out of approximately 400 fire departments in Colorado,
we are the 4th fire department to have bestowed this
honor. Of the approximately 32,000 fire departments in the nation, only
127 have reached Accreditation status through 2007. This includes four
fire departments in the State of Colorado that have been
accredited.
Most importantly, becoming an accredited
fire agency allows us to enhance our quality
improvement processes and continue providing the highest
level of fire and rescue services to the City of Pueblo
and community.
Benefits of accreditation and
self-assessment include:
ü
Promoting excellence within the fire department and improve
our abilities to recognize and better understand potential risks and
hazards.
ü
Improve the quality of life in our community.
ü
Encouraging quality improvement through a continuous
self-assessment process.
ü
Providing a detailed evaluation of the department, detailing
the services it provides to the community.
ü
Identifying areas of strength and weakness within the
department.
ü
Creating methods or systems for addressing deficiencies
while building organizational success.
ü
Encouraging professional growth in addition to its personnel
involved in the self- assessment process.
ü
Providing a forum for the communication of organizational
priorities
ü
Fostering national recognition for the Pueblo FD by
colleagues and the public.
ü
Creating a mechanism for developing concurrent documents to
include strategic and program action plans.
