Honor Farm Park & Open Space
MASTER PLAN

 Welcome

The Honor Farm Park & Open Space Master Plan was adopted on November 12, 2007 by the Pueblo City Council creating a long-term plan for uses, features, and amenities, open space and management of the 2,373-acre park and open space area located south of US Highway 50 West and west of Pueblo Blvd.   The property was purchased by the City of Pueblo from the State of Colorado in 2001.

Working under the provisions of a Conservation Easement Agreement granted to the State of Colorado, the master plan sets the framework for the responsible management and uses of the land.  The plan identifies a balance of appropriate uses of the property and provides for the protection and preservation of open space.

Study Area

The Honor Farm Park & Open Space is a 2,373-acre area roughly bounded by U.S. Highway 50 West on the north, Pueblo Blvd. (SH45) on the east, Purcell Blvd. on the west, and Lake Pueblo State Park on the south.  The property contains two areas that are leased by the City of Pueblo:  Pueblo Motorsports Park, a 710-acre area on the northeast corner of the property; and the Sky Corral Model Airplane Club, a 60-acres at the north edge of the property.

City Council Adopts Honor Farm
Master Plan

The Pueblo City Council after over a year of public workshops and meetings adopted the Honor Farm Park and Open Space Master Plan on November 12, 2007.  The master plan was developed by the Honor Farm Master Plan Advisory Committee comprised of 12 members appointed by the Pueblo City Council representing a variety of recreational, neighborhood, and other public interests.  The Advisory Committee in conjunction with city staff and contracted consultants completed the master plan establishing a long-term implementation strategy for uses, features, and amenities, parks, open space and management of the 2,373-acre park and open space area. The City of Pueblo Planning and Zoning Commission endorsed the plan in October, 2007.

The master plan includes the designation of different park and open space uses of the property, a plan for the realignment of the park boundaries to allow for the acquisition of the privately owned in-holdings, the general location for future roadways connecting between Pueblo West and Pueblo Blvd., a project implementation plan and schedule, projected costs for park and open space improvements, a projected cost for operation and management, and operation and management recommendations.
