Domestic Violence Unit

The Domestic Violence Unit performs many functions in the effort to stop domestic violence in the community, enhance victim safety and hold perpetrators of domestic violence accountable for their actions. The unit links the efforts of the Police Department, victim advocates, prosecutors and courts to identify specific problems and appropriate solutions.

The detective assigned to the unit conducts follow-up investigations on domestic violence cases including, but not limited to, taking additional photographs of bruising to demonstrate the visible progression of injuries, collecting additional evidence, conducting interviews of persons involved in the crimes and completing supplemental reports. The Domestic Violence Unit also plays an integral role in the Fast Track Program, which seeks to expedite prosecution of suspects and place an emphasis on treatment as opposed to punishment.
